II: KBML > KVSF

Filed Route: AYZOO LEB

Distance: 98 nm

Termination: KVSF LOC DME Rwy 5 - Circle to Land Rwy 29 (Full Stop)

Doug and Billy negotiate a challenging crosswind at KBML only to find that all the power is out and they cannot dispense fuel. It should have been a clue when they could not get the weather prior to departure from Bangor or receive the AWOS frequency enroute. The BML VOR was also out of service. Now they're on to Springfield, VT (KVSF). They fight more winds over the mountains and have to assert themselves to get what they need from ATC. They also fly an interesting non-precision approach into KVSF with step downs terminating with a circle to land on a reciprocal runway, full stop - and fuel.

Good learning moments:

  • Giving a PIREP
  • Flying an ODP for terrain
  • Alerting ATC, need lower
  • Procedure turn for course reversal on the approach
