The leg to KMTV is a short one and things are moving fast in the cockpit. This is a good example of coaching that is nearly crew management. The approach into Martinsville is planned as a MAP (missed approach procedure). Along the way we cross a military training route where two F-15's have to veer out of our way. After the missed approach at KMTV we're on our way to Asheville where we have change the flight plan several times. Ultimately we fly the procedure turn for the RNAV 17 with the autopilot. Note how Doug coaches Billy to hold altitude at 5,000' at LUYGI to intercept the glideslope rather than stepping down again to STOSS. This gives him a stabilized approach earlier. The wind blows the airplane around on final so Billy hand flies the final approach to landing.
