The crew is cleared from KISP to KOWD via the Long Island 5 Departure. They take time to brief the SID and then get information Echo. Doug has planned for an intersection takeoff from KISP which confuses Billy initially. They get vectors from Long Island Departure and are asked to give their best rate of climb to avoid traffic through 4,000'. Over to New York Approach where they ask for, and eventually get, direct Norwich. Once clear of the busy NY airspace Billy and Doug can look at the weather at KOWD and begin to plan their arrival. There are only two approaches at Norwood. Both are for runway 35 and information Kilo at Norwood advertises a circle to land for runway 17.

Approaching WOONS Doug sees that we should be starting down in order to make 3000' at CURLI and requests lower from ATC. He doesn't wait. Once they're handed off to Boston they request the RNAV Rwy 35. They're told to expect clearance on final and the Norwood tower will let them know which runway to expect. Doug has to alert Boston that they're established on the approach so that they can be cleared. Billy elects to hand fly the approach into KOWD.
